Moyes still expects to add to Manchester United squad

Despite pointing to the strength of Manchester United’s current squad, manager David Moyes still believes they will add to it before the transfer window shuts.  And despite Barcelona having turned down bids for Cesc Fabregas, the Scottish manager hasn’t ruled out adding to the current group of players at his disposal.

The ex-Everton manager said: “I couldn’t tell you if there will be another bid {for Fabregas}. Obviously we will take stock of it and consider what we are going to do next.

“I never at any time said I knew we would get him. I just said we had made offers.

“But what we have here is a really good squad of players already. You mustn’t forget about the quality that is already here at Manchester United.

“Undoubtedly we are hoping to add to it. I am quite confident we will do, certainly before the window shuts.”

Meanwhile, the future of Wayne Rooney at the club still hangs in the balance.  But today, United legend Bobby Charlton made clear where he thinks the England international’s future lies.

He said in an interview with :  “Wayne Rooney is a Manchester United player and I think that he will continue to be a Manchester United player.

“We are not silly enough to make any rash decisions. I don’t like losing really good players and he is a really, really good player.

“I was hoping one day that he might score as many goals as I had and that would have been really nice if it was at our club – and I’m still thinking that way.”

Charlton went on to give his thoughts on the new United set-up, saying:  “This pre-season friendly tour is very important for our new manager David Moyes. He is a first class coach and a manager and I was not surprised that Manchester United thought about him when Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

“There is continuity already because Sir Alex is a director of the club and he will get the opportunity to say something if he doesn’t agree with things, but I doubt very much whether he will disagree at all. I am certain there will be mutual support between Sir Alex and David.”

One player who could well be on Moyes’ radar is his former player at Everton, Marouane Fellaini.  There could well be competition from rivals Arsenal, particularly if they are not successful in their pursuit of Liverpool’s Luis Suarez who has been the subject of an offer by the London club.

Moyes could well need to act quickly if he does wish to add the talented Belgian to his squad before the new season begins.
