Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich will look to keep their immaculate start to the season going when they come up against Schalke on Sunday.
Bayern have been almost unstoppable since their opening day 1-0 defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach, finding the net 16 times in the next four games as they rocketed to the top of the table, level on points with Werder Bremen.
Mario Gomez has been the destroyer in chief so far this season, picking up an incredible eight goals in the first five games of the season, including four against Freiburg in the 7-0 thrashing earlier this month.
The visitors have their fair share of injury worries going into the tie, and could be without Gomez who is still suffering the effects of a groin injury while experienced defender Daniel Van Buyten is also doubtful because of a heel problem.
The game should be an emotional one for new Bayern shot stopped Manuel Neuer, who will return to his old club for the first time since making the switch over the summer.
Such is the ferociousness of the rivalry between the two teams that the news of the German international’s transfer to Munich prompted protests from Bayern supporters, so Neuer can expected a less than friendly welcome from his old fans this weekend.
Schalke have had an indifferent start to the new season, and having enjoyed a spectacular Champions League run last time round will be desperate to string a handful of wins together and get back up into the top four once more, starting with a win against the giants of German football.
Honours were even last season as both teams picked up two wins apiece in the four games they shared, but Bayern have the edge historically losing only once in their last seven trips to the Veltins-Arena, a statistic the prolific Schalke attack that have mustered 11 goals this season will hope to address this weekend.
