Norwich host Sunderland this evening with both teams looking to build on their first Premier League wins of the season last weekend.
The Canaries secured a valuable three points at Bolton and will be keen to follow this up with their first victory on home soil in this campaign.
Sunderland will be hoping that their victory against Stoke City last time out was the start of better things for them too. The 4-0 demolition of Tony Pulis’ side was their first of the season.
After both these teams picked up their first win in their most recent fixture, they sit 13th and 14th in the table with five points each. Victory for either side tonight would see them climb into the top-half.
A lot has changed since the last time these two teams met. It was around two years ago in a Carling Cup tie with Steve Bruce’s men hammering League One Norwich 4-1.
Canaries manager Paul Lambert had only just taken over at this stage and as everyone knows, he has turned around Norwich’s fortunes remarkably since then. Sunderland will have a much tougher challenge on their hands this time around.
Looking at the team news, Lambert could be tempted to keep the same side that defeated Bolton last time out. However, he is known for making regular changes and he has a decision to make on captain Grant Holt who started on the bench at the Reebok.
As for Sunderland, Phil Bardsley will defintley be missing as he continues to serve out his suspension, while David Meyler, Craig Gordon and Fraizer Campbell are still not available for selection as they continue to recover from various injuries.
A statistic of note for this one is that the last five league meetings between the two sides have ended in a 1-0 victory for the home team.
However, with Norwich conceding a penalty in every game so far and looking shaky at the back at times, it might not be as low scoring as this.
Overall, it should be a very entertaining Monday Night Football and it gets underway at 8pm this evening.
