Two in-form teams meet in this weekend’s Super Sunday fixture as Newcastle host Tottenham hoping to continue their fine start to the Premier League campaign.
Alan Pardew’s men are unbeaten after seven games in a start that not many fans of the club would have predicted. After a difficult summer – key players left the club and not too much was spent on their replacements – many Newcastle fans feared the worst this year.

However, after a 0-0 draw with Arsenal on the opening day was followed by an excellent 1-0 win at local rivals Sunderland, Newcastle have been in fine form to find themelves in the top four of the Premier League.
They will be aware that remaining in the Champions League places is an unrealistic target for the rest of the campaign, but they will want to keep their recent run going as long as possible and certainly won’t want it to end against a Tottenham team that are three points behind them.
Spurs do have genuine top four ambitions of course. They got a taste for Champions League football last season and will want it back at White Hart Lane as soon as possible.
With this in mind, they will be encouraged by their recent form. Since being hammered by Manchester City, Harry Redknapp’s men have won four Premier League games in succession, the most recent of which was a 2-1 victory over Arsenal just before the international break.
Spurs have a game in hand over most of their nearest rivals in the league too, so a win at St James Park on Sunday would put them in a very good position.
It won’t be easy though. Newcastle are in excellent spirits and this clash between two of the in-form teams is extremely tough to call.
Looking at this fixture before the start of the season, you would have had Spurs down as favourites. This may still be the case, but it will be a lot more competitive than initially thought.
With regards to team news, Newcastle are expected to name an unchanged team while Tottenham will give a late fitness test to Emmanuel Adebayor to see if he is ready to start.
This one gets underway at 4pm on Sunday and acts as an excellent way to finish the weekend’s Premier League action.
