Former Manchester United midfielder, Tom Cleverly, has left the Red Devils for Everton and although he did get a lot of interest from Arsenal, chose not to join the Gunners.
After not really living up to his potential, England international, Tom Cleverly chose to join Roberto Martinez’s side the moment his contract at Old Trafford expired. After spending last season on loan with Aston Villa, the former Wigan Athletic loanee chose to play his trade at Goodison Park despite getting an offer from Arsenal.
However, the midfielder said that he rejected the chance to join Arsenal because he wanted to link up with Roberto Martinez again who was his manager during his loan spell with the Latics.
Cleverley explained: “I think Roberto is a great manager and I’m massively looking forward to working with him again.
“We obviously had a year at Wigan together that I really enjoyed.
“He knows me and he knows how I like to play, so hopefully we can hit it off again come the start of the season.
“I’m delighted to be joining because it’s a fantastic club.
“There is an all-round package with the history of the club, the great players that are currently here, the manager and the fans.
“It’s definitely the club I wanted to play for.
