Following an incredibly unsuccessful spell at Liverpool, England international Joe Cole could attempt to reignite his career at Tottenham with Harry Redknapp keen on the midfielder’s signature.
It is being reported that Spurs are willing to pay £3m for the former Chelsea man, with some reports suggesting that the fee has already been agreed.
Cole moved to Anfield last summer on a free transfer and signed a lucrative four-year deal, but he started just nine times in the Premier League last season and failed to make the impact many hoped he would.
Now it seems Tottenham are prepared to revisit their interest from last summer and make a move for Cole. Redknapp has worked with him before at West Ham and would be confident of getting the best out of his undoubted talent.
The 29-year-old will need to take a wage cut to move to White Hart Lane, but with the footballing world watching on, it would be a positive move from him.
Of course, he could sit on his £90,000 per week wages at Anfield and risk never hitting top form again or indeed playing for England again.
However, if Cole still has ambitions to perform at the highest level, a reduction in wage will surely be worth it. He needs to prove a few people wrong too, with the next Premier League season arguably make or break for him.
Should this transfer go ahead, it could free Tottenham up to sell similar player Luka Modric for around £20m. Then, with £17m profit from the two deals, they could improve other areas of the playing squad.
Of course no deals have been confirmed as yet, but there is likely to be lots of movement in and out of White Hart Lane and Anfield this summer. We will keep you informed on the latest right here.
