All eyes will be on Anfield tonight with Jurgen Klopp looking to continue his remarkable rise in England as his Liverpool side take on Leeds Utd in the EFL Cup.
Its been a successful season for the Reds and their German manager, with the side ideally placed in the Premier League and the club in seemingly good form. The air of invincibility has taken a dent over the last few days however, with the news that talismatic midfielder Phillipe Coutinho has a period on the sidelines and is out until mid January 2017 with ligament trouble picked up in the win over Sunderland.
This could be a bitter blow for Reds fans to take and the Kop faithful will be hopeful that injury to one of this season’s star assets will not affect performances or the off field atmosphere surrounding the club.
There is better news for Klopp with Adam Lallana rumoured to be nearing full fitness following a groin injury, and the England international could return at the perfect time with a run out in the League Cup.
Worries continue to surround Daniel Sturridge, who once again is struggling with injury, with Divock Origi set to start up front for the Liverpool attack as Klopp is set to make a few changes to the side.
As for their opponents Leeds, the Lilywhites are finally looking like a side with realistic ambitions of a significant promotion push in the Championship this season, and Garry Monk has certainly steadied the ship at the club, for the moment at least.
Four wins out of their last five has propelled the club into the Championship play off places, their only defeat coming at home to pacesetters Newcastle, and Monk has brought in a few of his former players at Swansea, with Kyle Bartley and Pablo Hernandez both making an impression for Monk.
Of course, Leeds will still have to be at the top of their game to defeat their high flying Premier League opponents, however this could be the time to take on Liverpool at home.
The home side are available at 2/7, which offers little or no value to punters. Instead, it is reported that the 12/1 on the Leeds win has attracted some money over the last 24 hours. It remains to be seen what changes will be made by both managers, but from a betting perspective we could be set for a large priced winner.
Elsewhere, high flying Newcastle are well fancied to see off struggling Premier League outfit Hull. The Toon have arguably a stronger squad despite languishing in the second tier of English football and their price of 13/10 is sure to see plenty of takers.
Mike Phelan is working with a threadbare squad, and with a relegation fight on the horizon there are sure to be plenty of changes to the Tigers side. On the other side Rafa Bentiez has a squad brimming with quality, and it could be a difficult night for the home side.
Whatever you decide, we’ve got two high quality encounters, with plenty of goals in store.
