Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer is confident that star striker Christian Benteke will remain at Selhurst Park, despite speculation linking him to Premier League clubs.
The Belgian has most consistently been linked with Everton as a possible replacement for international compatriot Romelu Lukaku at Everton, following his move to Manchester United. There has also been rumours that he is being monitored by Chelsea, who are in the market for a striker also.
Speaking in Hong Kong, where the club are currently on a pre-season tour, the manager assured fans that he expected the striker to stay.
“He’s happy here and we really want him to stay,” said the Eagles boss. “He made a great impact last season, especially in the second half of the season, and he is crucial to us and we don’t want to sell him.”
Palace’s record signing weighed in with 15 Premier League goals last season, the majority of which came under now departed manager Sam Allardyce, and helped to keep the club in the Premier League.
After the former Aston Villa forward signed for £32 Million last season, it would take a big money move for a club to avail of his services.
Palace come up against Benteke’s former club Liverpool tomorrow in the Premier League Asia Trophy in Hong Kong, and de Boer wants his players to know what is expected of them as they begin playing under their new manager.
“We talk almost every day about what we expect from everybody individually and what their roles are attacking-wise and defensively, and the squad understand what I want,” he said.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool in the Premier League Asia Trophy kicks off tomorrow at 1.30 PM with Chelsea loan signing Ruben Loftus-Cheek expected to make his debut for the Eagles.
