Liverpool in for Werder Bremen Striker

Liverpool are said to be interested in acquiring the services of Werder Bremen striker Max Kruse according to Sport Bild.

The striker has already been on the radar of Premier League rivals Chelsea after scoring 15 goals in 23 games last season, and the two clubs are expected to go head-to-head in an attempt to add the German to their side.

It is believed that Bremen would not stand in the way of their player making a move as long as their £16 million valuation is met by any potential suitors.

When quizzed about the player’s future at Bremen, manager Frank Baumann wittily replied: “There’s no guarantee – you only get a guarantee with Tupperware.”

At 29 years old, Kruse is coming off of his most prolific season to date, also managing to chip in with seven assists. In the campaign prior to last season, Kruse only netted nine times for his club at the time Wolfsburg, so seen a marked improvement in the most recent term.

Liverpool have already added Dominic Solanke from Chelsea and Mohammed Salah from AS Roma to their attacking options this Summer, and are believed to still be in the market for an out-and-out striker as Daniel Sturridge’s place in the team and long-term future at Liverpool is no longer cemented.

Whether Kruse remains an upgrade on the English striker remains to be seen, but what is clear is that manager Jurgen Klopp intends on reshuffling his forward line for the coming season, and that more transfers will likely be incoming before the close of the Summer transfer window.

With the announcement that Alvaro Morata is Chelsea-bound, perhaps they have found their striker, so Kruse could become a Liverpool player in the coming weeks.
