The Italian giants have so far lived up to their illustrious past and delivered on the promises made by their new American owners at the start of the season, picking up four wins from their first eleven games and tasting defeat an equal amount of times.

That string of results has left them seven points of early pace setters Udinese at the top of the table, but despite their indifferent form the home side will be confident of picking up all three points against a Lecce side which have fared woefully against them.

The home side have lost just once in Serie A to the visitors to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, all the way back in the 1985/86 season, although it was an important win as Roma sacrificed the Serie A title because of it.

Since that win Lecce have mustered just two points against Roma, picking up draws in 1988 and 2004.

The home side will go into the game without defender Nicolas Burdisso. The Argentinian  suffered suspected damaged knee ligaments while playing for his country against Columbia on Tuesday.

Burdisso’s absence will do little to allay fears Enrique must hold over his defensive unit, which has so far managed to keep just one clean sheet at home all season, although Lecce will likely have trouble mustering a goal threat having just eight goals so far this game – the second lowest total in the league and only recently ending a seven game winless streak with victory over rock bottom club Cesena.

Roma will likely rely upon Pablo Osvaldo to get the goals they need to claim three points, with the Argentinian born Italian international leading Roma’s scoring charts having notched five times so far.
