While their league campaign continues along the right track, Milan suffered a Champions League setback when they lost 3-2 against Barcelona to hand the Spanish giants the top automatic qualifying spot in Group H, leaving them in line for a tough draw in the knockout stages.

On the domestic front Milan remain in touch with their league rivals, sitting a solitary point behind table toppers Lazio and Juventus who go head to head this weekend,  and Savicevic believes that in order to reach the level of Barcelona and lead the way in Serie A, they must look to the transfer market in January.

“AC Milan do pretty well every time I see them. However, they need two new signings if they want to be of the same level as Barcelona. They need a new defender and a new midfielder,” Savicevic told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“They are already very strong up front with players like Robinho, [Alexandre] Pato and [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic. [Kevin-Prince] Boateng is a great player, too.

“Games like the ones against Barcelona only help the team develop. I am confident that if both times meet again in the semi-finals, Barcelona could very well lose.” He added.

Milan will have the chance to either go top or move up to second if they can secure three points against a Chievo side punching above their weight so far this season.

The home side are unbeaten in the league since their 2-0 defeat against Juventus back at the beginning of October, and hope to do a better job against Chievo than they did the last time the two met in the league, where a late effort from Brazilian Pato helped secure a 2-1 win.
