Swansea star Scott Sinclair is allegedly being lined up by Tottenham in a deal which could be in excess of £9m.
Sources around the south-Wales club have it on good authority that Spurs scouts have been tracking the progress of the tricky winger over the past three months and have reported back to Harry Redknapp with glowing reviews.
Redknapp has gone on record saying he isn’t expecting to do much business this January but would be open to the idea of signing a special player, which, according to the Spurs scouts, Sinclair certainly has the potential to be.
The former Chelsea man was instrumental in Swansea’s promotion season from the Championship last year, scoring 27 goals from a wide-midfield berth. This included a sensational hat-trick in the Playoff final against Reading, where his predatory skills were most certainly the difference between the sides.
What has impressed Redknapp the most this season, however, is his approach play rather than his goals and sees the 22-year-old as perfect back-up for either Aaron Lennon or Gareth Bale. Swansea have taken to the Premier League like a duck to water and currently sit pretty in mid-table. The silky winger has failed to find the net as much as he did last season but five goals and six assists is still a fruitful record.
Redknapp was given a front row taste of the youngster’s talents in Spurs’ recent trip to the Liberty Stadium, where Sinclair played extremely well on the left flank and was a big part in Swansea grabbing a well-deserved 1-1 draw against the potential Premier League champions.
If the Spurs board allow the funds to be released for the transfer then Swansea will find the £9m tough to turn down.
