Tottenham fullback Danny Rose to Arsenal

Tottenham full-back Danny Rose could be about to ignite the fiery feud between Tottenham and Arsenal by moving to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are in desperate need for a left full-back and sources around the club have revealed that Rose, who has struggled for first-team opportunities this season at Spurs, is one of the players at the top of Arsène Wenger’s list.

Arsenal’s season has somewhat gone off the rails again in the last two weeks. Surprising defeats at Fulham and Swansea have brought about the argument that Wenger has not done enough in the transfer windows to get the club into the automatic Champions League qualification places.

In fairness to the Arsenal manager, injuries have hardly helped. At times this season his first choice back-four have all been ruled out, with the left-back area, especially, proving a poisoned chalice for players.

Kieran Gibbs is out injured and is likely to be for a while yet while the man they signed in the summer Andre Santos is out until March. In response to the injuries they have been using different players to solve the problem – Thomas Vermaelen, Francis Coquelin and Ignasi Miquel all have tried and ultimately failed to plug the gap though.

However, Wenger never wants to pay over the odds for a transfer, and it is unlikely that the rumoured fee of around £2.5m is going to be enough to tempt Tottenham into selling.

There is no love lost between the intense north-London rivals and Wenger’s plans to bring Spurs’ second choice left-back will not go down well with all concerned at White Hart Lane.

Rose is rumoured to be unhappy at not playing more regularly at Spurs but whether he would want to anger a whole supporter base by moving across north-London is far from likely.
