AC Milan v Arsenal 19:45 Wed
In what is sure to be one of this week’s most exciting European fixtures, AC Milan will play hosts to Arsenal in the Champions League with Paddy Power making the Italians odds against as they look to continue their success in on both European and domestic fronts.
Milan are currently sitting at the summit of Serie A and while the Rossoneri will be focusing on retaining their place atop the Italian top flight, getting a home result in their first leg fixture of the Gunners will undoubtedly come as a high priority for Massimiliano Allegri’s side.
Arsene Wenger’s side will travel to the San Siro with morale running high after managing a late comeback win against Premier League rivals Sunderland.
While that may not have sounded much of a feat three months ago, a trip to the Stadium of Light has become a hard thing to do since Martin O’Neill’s takeover and the North London outfit can be pleased to have come away with a win, especially on the back of a 7-1 victory over relegation zone Blackburn Rovers.
AC Milan will pose an altogether more difficult test though, and as well as holding the second best attack in Serie A, even more frightening is the fact that the Milan club have the best home defence in the league.
Arsenal will be relying heavily on Robin van Persie to lead from the front come Tuesday night against a stern Milan defence.
Both sides will see a number of faces return from injury and suspension this week, most notably on the Italian side of things is goalkeeper Abbiati and veteran defender Nesta, who will both contribute massively to that solid backline.
Alexandre Patohas also resumed full training in the last week and will be expected to line up against the English opposition.
For Arsenal, the injury setbacks are beginning to return in dribs and drabs with Bacary Sagna now featuring more regularly for the side as well as Kieran Gibbs returning to full fitness after nearly six months on the sidelines.
Arsene Wenger will be nab an away goal when his side travel to the mighty San Siro but AC Milan will surely prove hard to penetrate.
Arsenal have showed that this task can be overcome however, beating the Italian outfit in the exact same fixture back in 2008.
