Blues owner Roman Abramovich is keen to overhaul his ageing squad in the summer and is taking a chance by pressing ahead in the transfer market despite not having installed a permanent manager at Stamford Bridge.
The Russian oligarch was keen to bring Hulk to West London after becoming convinced that he could provide the goals to propel Chelsea to Champions League glory.
However Abramovich has cooled on the idea with Chelsea having already made it to the final under Roberto Di Matteo and PSG, backed by Qatari billionaires, moving ahead in the race for the 25-year-old’s signature.
Its’s now being reported that he will turn his attentions to Willian with the 23-year-old having already agreed a deal according to the president of Brazilian club Santos Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro.
“We gave up because of a proposal that they [Shakhtar] received from Chelsea. It was an offer of tens of millions of euros. It seems that he will go there in the middle of the year.” He said.
The Brazilian international, who can play on the wing or just off a central striker, could be joined by Jovetic after his impressive campaign with Fiorentina in Serie A.
It’s believed the 22-year-old has been viewed as the long-term replacement for Didier Drogba after hitting 15-goals for the Viola this season after working his way back to fitness following a serious knee injury suffered last year.
With Drogba and Salmon Kalou likely to leave in the summer coupled Fernando Torres’ fluctuating form leaving Abramovich knows he needs to reinforce the attacking options at Stamford Bridge for his new manager.
