Regardless of their FA Cup triumph and possible Champions League victory, it appears that Chelsea are gearing up for a player exodus this summer with the likes of Florent Malouda, Jose Bosingwa, Michael Essien and Raul Meireles all reportedly heading for the exit.
Sources suggest that this summer will be one of rebuilding after what was a very disappointing league campaign and that we can expect to see a raft of new faces at Stamford Bridge in time for the 2012-13 season.
The Blues have already wrapped up the signature of Marko Marin who will make his arrival from Werder Bremen in June.
Kevin de Bruyne will also take his first steps as a Chelsea player this summer after sealing a move to the West London outfit in January before being loaned back to Racing Genk for the remainder of this term.
However, Roman Abramovich doesn’t seem keen on closing his chequebook quite yet and the Champions League finalists – who face Bayern Munich on 19th May – continue to be linked with a number of European superstars.
Bosingwa’s deal with Chelsea runs out at the end of this season and the Portuguese full-back is unlikely to sign an extension.
Roma have emerged as the most likely suitors for Bosingwa’s signature and should Andre Villas Boas take over the reins at the Serie A side as rumoured, that particular move would see all the more likely.
Florent Malouda has just over a year left on his deal but has been associated with a departure for some months now and rather than lose the Frenchman on a free, the Blues may opt to cash in on the winger now.
Meireles and Essien’s deals run considerably longer and don’t expire until 2015 but after failing to hold down a starting spot and struggling with injury, respectively, could be moving on soon.
Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou are two other Chelsea players quite possibly moving on from their current surroundings.
