Arsenal are set for a frantic spell of transfer dealings in the final couple of weeks before the start of the season if the large number of rumours concerning the Gunners prove true.
First up, Arsene Wenger is expected to up his bid for Everton defender Phil Jagielka to £15m having had a £10m bid rejected earlier in the summer.
The Arsenal boss is keen to add to his defence and sees Jagielka as his No.1 target. Everton do not want to sell though, so it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will have to revisit this with a third bid.
Next up is the story that has dominated the summer once again – Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona. Arsenal are said to have put a £40m price tag on their captain and will not accept anything less.
Another angle on this, is that Wenger has been in touch with Barcelona’s president Sandro Rosell to say that a deal is agreed before the 5th August, or there will be no more negotiations.
Arsenal clearly don’t want this long running saga to continue causing distractions too close to the start of the new campaign and rightly so.
Continuing the transfer discussion at the Emirates is the news that the club are reportedly close to signing Valencia winger Juan Mata for £19m.
As for players that could be leaving the Gunners, Nicklas Bendtner looks set to join Sporting Lisbon for around £9m. The Danish striker hasn’t been consistent enough for Arsenal and will be shipped out before the start of the new season.
So it may well have been a relatively quiet summer for Arsenal in terms of completed deals, but that is set to change in the final two weeks before the first game.
It will certainly be interesting to see who lines up for the Gunners on 13th August.
