Abramovich wants Champions League to tempt Lavezzi and Cavani

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is hoping that Champions League success will be enough to lure Napoli stars Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani to Stamford Bridge.

Sources close to SqueakyBumTime have told use that the Russian oligarch is desperate to sign the duo in the summer as he plans a major squad overhaul on Kings Road.

Despite not having a permanent manager in place Abramovich has already drawn up a list of potential transfer targets that is topped by Lavezzi and Cavani as he searches for European quality striking reinforcements.

The striking pair have shared 43 goals in all competitions between them as Napoli narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification after they finished 5th in Serie A.

Chelsea, who finished 6th in the Premier League, can still snatch a place on Europe’s top table if they beat German side Bayern Munich in the final on Saturday at the Allianz Arena.

Should they triumph Abramovich is confident he can use that as leverage to entice the South American duo to swap Naples for West London and spearhead the Blues’ attack next season.

27-year-old Lavezzi, who is also on Manchester City’s radar, is certain to leave the Stadio San Paolo in the summer after falling out with club president Aurelio de Laurentiis.

Fending off the newly crowned champions to land the £28 million rated Argentina international will be a tall order on account of City’s unmatchable financial muscle.

Convincing teammate Cavani to make the move to England could hold the key and the Uruguayan is rumoured to be heading for the Napoli exit door with rumours circulating that he doesn’t want to play in the Europa League.

The 25-year-old has struck 32 times for the Italian’s this season and would offer Chelsea the much needed cutting edge they’ve lacked in what has been a disappointing campaign.
