Newcastle raising interest in Ligue 1 wing-back

With it seeming increasingly likely that Newcastle will be on the lookout for a new right-back over the summer, Mathieu Debuchy has emerged as a prime candidate for the north-east outfit.

Danny Simpson is being tipped to head for the exit of the Sports Direct Arena at the end of the current campaign, despite the club’s highly successful season that saw them reach the new heights of fifth spot.

Debuchy is being linked with a number of Premier League club after it came out that the Frenchman is likely to move on from Lille in the summer months.

Rumours suggest that Yohan Cabaye has been in contact with his former teammate and compatriot, urging Debuchy to follow suit and join the French revolution at Newcastle.

If he were to complete a move to Tyneside, Debuchy would join an already strong contingent of French-speakers at the side that boasts the likes of the aforementioned Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa, Sylvain Marveaux and Papiss Demba Cissé as well as others.

If Danny Simpson does leave the Magpies as protracted, Ryan Taylor would be the only natural competition at right-back, meaning that reinforcements would certainly be expected.

Alan Pardew’s current French players have proven their weight in gold since coming to the club over the past two seasons and Ligue 1 might once again be targeted by the English club for further additions.

The 26 year-old made an incredible 43 starts for Lille this season, scoring five goals and making one assist in the process.

If Debuchy were to leave the Ligue outfit, his signature would be valued at £6m, an affordable fee for Newcastle if they are to build on the foundations built this season.
