Van Persie set for Arsenal talks as Man City monitor situation

Manchester City are keeping close tabs on Robin Van Persie’s situation at Arsenal as he prepares to sit down for talks with manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis today.

A SqueakyBumTime has revealed that the Dutchman, who’s current deal expires next summer, will sit down with his representatives and the clubs hierarchy to see where both parties stand before hammering out the details of a new contract.

The Gunners are prepared to make Van Persie the highest paid player in their history although he is more concerned about who they’re targeting in the upcoming transfer window.

Reports are indicating that Wenger will have a hard time convincing his captain to remain at the Emirates Stadium unless he is willing to invest in some world-class players.

During eight-years in North London the striker, who turns 29 in August,  has just an FA Cup winners medal to show for his efforts and is more interested in winning trophies as he approaches the prime of his career.

Arsenal are aware that City’s financial muscle will allow them to eclipse any wage offer they put on the table but are more concerned that the newly crowned Premier League champions will tempt him with the lure of silverware.

Boss Roberto Mancini is eager to add another proven goalscorer to his ranks at the Etihad Stadium despite having Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez to choose from.

The Italian is a huge admirer of Van Persie and will promise to make him a central part of his plans as the Sky Blues prepare to defend their first top-flight championship in 44-years and chase Champions League glory.

City are the front runners to secure his signature but will have to beat off La Liga champions from Real Madrid after Juventus cooled their interest.
