Tottenham weighing up bid for unsettled Newcastle hitman

After taking a back seat in the goalscoring responsibilities since January, reports suggest that Demba Ba could be considering his options outside of the Sports Direct Arena this summer, with Tottenham thought to be interested.

Since arriving at the club, Papiss Demba Cissé has become the go-to guy for goals but Ba is determined to re-establish himself as a main attacking threat in his own right.

Before Cissé moved to Newcastle in January, Ba had netted fifteen goals in the Premier League and was on track to challenge for this season’s Golden Boot award.

After Cissé’s arrival, Ba was limited to just one more goal and moved to a wider position, playing the role of provider more than the target man in the second half of the season.

Before his drop in scoring form, just about every team that could use more goals were being linked with a move for Ba.

This speculation heightened further when it emerged that a clause exists in the Senegalese international’s contract stipulating that he can leave the north-east club for a fee of around £10m.

Ba signed for Newcastle on a free transfer last summer and so any fee that the Magpies receive will be profit but it wouldn’t be a surprise to learn that Alan Pardew would rather hang on to his striker than lose him.

Tottenham’s main attacking outlet this season has been on-loan Emmanuel Adebayor, who is set to return back to parent club, Manchester City, in July and is unlikely to return to return to White Hart Lane on a permanent deal.

As a result, Spurs will be on the lookout for a replacement striker and if Demba Ba were to be handed the responsibility of a main goalscorer again, he could prove just as threatening as he was in the first five months of this season.
