With the English football community currently brimming with news of Roberto Martinez’s possible appointment as manager of Liverpool, sources suggest that the Spaniard is already planning a raid on Wigan Athletic should he move.
The Latics granted Liverpool permission to talk to Martinez on Thursday and should he prove successful in negotiations, could be placed at the helm of the club as early as next week.
The two players in question appear to be Mohamed Diamé and Victor Moses, two of, if not the most valuable assets currently at the DW Stadium.
Should Martinez complete his move to Anfield, luring Diamé to Merseyside shouldn’t be too difficult at all, considering the Senegalese international’s deal at Wigan will expire at the end of June.
Moses has a year left to run on his contract but has stated that he is open to a move away from Wigan should the right offer come his way.
In all, this summer may prove to be a very disappointing one for Wigan, who would appear as set to lose three of the most influential figured at the club, both on the field and off of it.
Diamé didn’t feature in the Wigan starting line-up as much in the second half of the season because of his intentions to move elsewhere and the defensive midfielder will be keen to gain some first-team football as soon as possible in any new surroundings he may find himself in.
The 24 year-old sticks out in the Wigan squad as one of their bigger performers and would certainly be a lucrative free transfer for whoever decides to sign him this summer.
Should Moses complete a move away from Wigan in the coming months, his signature is reportedly valued at £7m.
The 20 year-old has featured for the Latics on 39 occasions this season, scoring six goals and making six assists in the process.
