Just nine days after guiding the club to it’s first ever Premier League title the 47-year-old is now focusing his mind on player recruitment and has put a central defender at the top of his shopping list with Kolo Toure set to depart.
With an unlimited transfer budget at his disposal Mancini has earmarked Brazil international Thiago as the man he wants to challenge Joleon Lescott for a place next to captain Vincent Kompany in the starting lineup.
It was reported by the Italian media that City had enquired about the 27-year-old and teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovich, who was linked with a switch to the Etihad Stadium last year.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport Mario Balotelli was offered in exchange for €50 million (£42m) rated Silva whilst Corriere dell Sport indicated the Rossoneri are interested in Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko.
However coach Massimiliano Allegri maintained that neither player would be leaving the San Siro asserting that he plans to build his side around the pair.
“The club and the president are keen to maintain AC Milan at a high level. brahimovic and Thiago will remain here.
“Thiago is young and Ibrahimovic can also give a lot. They are two champions on which Milan can build its basis for the future.
“The club is only working on replacing those players that have left.”
It’s rumoured that Mancini is planning a major cull to his title winning squad with the onus on stripping away the dead wood and players who have past their top-flight sell by date.
Ensuring City have the strength in depth to keep their crown out of the clutches of rivals Manchester United is his main concern after knocking the Red Devil’s off their perch.
