Blues owner Roman Abramovich is heading the clubs summer recruitment drive as he continues his search for a new manager and wants the 25-year-old to replace the soon-to-depart Didier Drogba.
The 34-year-old Ivory Coast international will leave Stamford Bridge when his contract expires in June and Abramovich sees Hulk as the perfect player to fill the void.
His tally of 25 goals in 38 appearances this season helped Porto to their second Primeira Liga title but it seems almost certain that he will leave the Estádio do Dragão.
The Brazil internationals agent Teodoro Fonseca has hinted the striker could end up in West London but revealed that four other English clubs are chasing his signature.
“There hasn’t been an official proposal so far.” Fonseca told the Brazilian media this week. “There has been a lot of interest in him, but it has yet to go further than that.
“All that should change next week. Besides Chelsea, there are four more English clubs interested in him.
“Porto will not let him go easily. His release clause is 100m euros [£80m], but ultimately it is the player’s wish to take on another challenge that will make the difference.
“Those are the words of Porto’s directors. They have said as much, and will not stand in his way, so though it will not be easy for those English clubs financially, there is room for negotiation. We can sort everything out, I am sure.”
Abramovich is planning a major summer spend on Kings Road and is also targeting Napoli striker Edinson Cavani along, Sao Paulo’s 19-year-old midfielder Lucas Moura and much sought after Lille star Eden Hazard.
