Hotshot Cisse on United radar

Newcastle face a fight to hold onto star striker Papiss Cisse after it emerged Manchester United are weighing up a bid according to the Mirror.

The Senegal international only joined the Magpies for £10 million from Freiburg in January but has taken the Premier League by storm scoring 13 goals in just 14 games to fire the Geordies into the Europa League.

His two stunning strikes against Chelsea, in particular, has caught the attention of United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and is now reportedly set to move for the 26-year-old striking sensation.

Cisse has established himself as one of Europe’s deadliest hitmen in the last couple of years and his reputation has been suitably enhanced during five-prolific months in the North East.

He was recently named captain of the national side also winning the African Golden Boot and is now being sounded out by the Red Devil’s as they seek to bolster their attack ahead of the new campaign.

Ferguson is after a natural finisher in the mould of Old Trafford legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy as he plots to steal the Premier League title back from the clutches of rivals City.

With the ability to score a variety of goals Cisse ticks all of the 70-year-olds boxes and has moved to the top of his summer shopping list.

Toon boss Alan Pardew faces an anxious pre-season as he battles to keep hold of his blue chip players.

United are also reportedly eyeing up 26-year-old midfielder Yohan Cabaye after an impressive debut season at St James’ Park.

Since arriving from Lille 12-months ago the French international has seen his stock rise and Ferguson sees him as the natural replacement for Paul Scholes in the United engine room.

Demba Ba could also be on his way out of Tyneside just a year after signing from West Ham on a free transfer with various Premier League clubs keen to take advantage of his £7 million release clause.
