Man Utd closing in on Kagawa deal

Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa according to a source close to Squeaky Bum Time.

Reports are suggesting that a deal in principle has been agreed between the United and the Bundesliga champions for the Japanese international who is expected to move to Old Trafford for an initial fee of £12 million rising to £17m.

Sir Alex Ferguson has moved quickly to offset the disappointment of losing out on Eden Hazard to Chelsea and will hope to have Kagawa’s transfer wrapped up the end of the week.

The 23-year-old and his representatives has yet to meet and discuss personal terms with the Red Devil’s although they expect negotiations to be completed swiftly and without complications.

He fits into the clubs new policy of purchasing young European players who don’t cost premium prices but possess the capability to improve over time.

Ferguson has had the playmaker scouted on a number of occasions this season and watched him personally a fortnight ago during Dortmund’s 5-2 win over Bayern Munich in the German Cup final.

He enjoyed a superb campaign at the Westfalenstadion scoring 13 goals in 31 games as The Borussians pipped Bayern to the title by eight points.

Kagawa’s sale will also provide a significant profit on the €350,000 manager Jurgen Klopp paid J. League side Cerezo Osaka for his services two-years ago.

His emergence since then as one of the continents most promising attacking midfielders saw him court interest from La Liga champions Real Madrid and Premier League side Arsenal.

He could be joined in the red half of Manchester by Crewe teenager Nick Powell who is also on Ferguson’s radar following a stunning debut season at Gresty Road.

The 18-year-old scored 16 goals for the Railwaymen including a stunning strike in the League Two play-off final against Cheltenham and the United chief is reportedly lining up a £4 million bid.
