Portugal and Holland go head on Sunday evening in what could potentially be one of the games of the tournament so far, as Ladbrokes free bets and report plenty of money on the Netherlands to finally come good and secure their first win of Euro 2012.
Two European giants, they each have their own chances of progressing to the knockout stages, with Portugal having the upper hand after two games.
They have lost one and won one so far, while Holland have it all to do after suffering two defeats in succession the start of Euro 2012. In truth, neither team has been particularly impressive so far.
Looking at Portugal to begin with, they gave themselves a chance of progressing from Group B with a 3-2 victory over Denmark last time out. They had to work a lot harder than expected – they led 2-0 at one stage – but three points were eventually secured.
This means that victory in this final game is enough to see them progress. This is the attitude they should adopt too. Forget what is going on elsewhere and focus on winning a game of football.
For them to have a good chance of this, it would certainly help if Cristiano Ronaldo turned on the style. The Real Madrid man hasn’t fired in this tournament so far and the Portuguese nation expects him to show his world-class qualities.
As for Holland, well it has been a disastrous tournament for them so far. Losing 1-0 to Denmark in the first game, they then went down 2-1 to Germany.
Frustratingly, the Dutch did play a lot better in the latter stages of the most recent defeat, but even when Robin Van Persie pulled a goal back for them, they still had too much to do.
Afterwards they received plenty of criticism for their two performances so far. They owe their fans a better showing on Sunday evening, no doubt about that.
With regards to what needs to happen for Holland to qualify, first of all, they must win. Anything less and they will be on the plane home far earlier than expected. Then, if they do get the points, they need to hope that Germany beat Denmark comfortably.
It is set to be a lively evening in Group B.
