It is top against bottom in the final Group A match of Euro 2012, with Sportingbet reporting free bets and plenty of support for Dick Advocaat’s Russia side at odds on, as both these sides aim to progress to the knockout stages.
Russia are without doubt the favourites to win the group and a draw in this one would be enough to see them progress, while they need victory to guarantee top spot.
Their approach to this game will therefore be very interesting indeed. Do they adopt a reserved approach and make sure they don’t lose or do they come out all guns blazing and try to dispatch what has been a fragile Greece defence?
The latter seems more likely. Russia were excellent going forward against Czech Republic in the opening game and in Alan Dzagoev they have a player on top of his game with three goals so far in this fantastic tournament.
Dick Advocaat’s men will look to take all the positives from this tournament so far – even from the 1-1 draw with Poland and put them into action. If they do, they should get the three points they need to lead the way in Group A.
As for Greece, well they appear to be the least likely team to progress from this tight group. Currently bottom with just one point, they need to win on Saturday evening and hope that the other result goes their way.
There is then the possibility that it could all come down to goal difference, so the best thing Greece can do on Saturday is win and win well. Then, they have a great chance of progressing, even at the expense of Russia.
It is the Russians that are favourites to win this game though and therefore win the group. They are3/4 to take all three points, while Greece are the outsiders at 7/4. The draw – which would be enough for Russia – is 3/1.
