Arsenal exit beckons for Van Persie as Wenger hunts new forward

Robin Van Persie looks likely to leave Arsenal in the summer after Arsene Wenger stepped up his hunt for a new forward a close Squeaky Bum Time sources tells us.

It’s thought that the Gunners are prepared to let the Holland international leave the Emirates Stadium after reportedly slapping a £30 million price tag on his head.

Van Persie failed to agree an extension to his contract, which expires next year, and now looks certain to North London before the start of the new season.

And that is despite the club willing to go above and beyond their wage structue to make him highest earner in their history with an offer of £130,000-a-week.

Chairman Peter Hill-Wood hasn’t given up hope of persuading the 28-year-old to stay but admits if a club came in with a salary of £250,000 Arsenal wouldn’t be able to compete.

Manchester City, Juventus, Paris St Germain and big spending Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala have all tracked Van Persie’s progress and could easily meet the Gunners’ valuation.

Wenger will now turn his attentions to signing a new striker to partner new signing Lukas Podoloski who joined for £10 million from German side Cologne in May.

A £12m agreement to sign Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud, who struck 20 goals in 31 games for the French champions last season, is rumoured to have been finalised  and he looks certain to be at the Emirates Stadium next season.

The 25-year-old is currently with the France squad at Euro 2012 and would be capable of filling the lone striker’s role as well as pairing up with Podolski.

Montpellier Rene Girard told French radio station RMC that Arsenal are leading the chase for Giround’s signature and will sign for the club.

“Arsenal are very interested and Giroud wants to play in England, if Arsene agrees with the president, he will sign for them,” he said.

The Gunners have also been linked with Real Madrid’s Spain U21 striker Joselu who netted 26 goals for the B team last season.
