United eyeing up Porto star Rodriguez

Manchester United are reportedly preparing to bid for Porto winger James Rodriguez as a replacement for contract-rebel Nani according to the Daily Mirror.

Portugal international Nani has already publicly admitted that he could quit Old Trafford after talks between the club and his representatives a new contract stalled earlier this month.

Rumours have gathered that the 25-year-old feels he is being forced out of the club following the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfield Shinji Kagawa and the fact no one from the club has contacted him whilst on international duty with Portugal at Euro 2012.

The establishment of Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia on the United flanks has also cast doubt over Nani’s future after he stated at the start of June that he thinking about leaving with Inter Milan rumoured to be monitoring is situation.

“I have had five seasons at Manchester United and have won all the titles,” he said.

“Now I am really happy, but I don’t know about my future. Now I will study opportunities. Football is not only about England or Spain. It is possible to enjoy success in other countries.

“My agent is waiting on news about United. We have presented a counter-offer and now we are waiting on an offer from the club.”

That admission has prompted Sir Alex Ferguson to hunt for a replacement leading to Colombian starlet Rodriguez jumping to the top of his summer shopping list.
The 20-year-0ld has already confessed that he dreams of playing for the Red Devils and could see his wish come true should Ferguson firm up his interest in the coming weeks.
United scouts have been tracking his progress all season and made a visit to South America to watch the £25-million rated winger in action for his national side but will face competition from Bayern Munich for his signature.
