The Reds are set to dispense with the Uruguayan after a controversy laden season that saw him become embroiled in a race row with Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
With both the player and club emerging from the saga with damaged reputations it’s rumoured they’re prepared to ditch the 25-year-old although they haven’t officially confirmed that he is for sale.
Juventus are reportedly interested and are said to have placed him at the top of their summer shopping list after losing hope of prising Robin Van Persie away from Arsenal.
Holland international Huntelaar is the man new boss Brendan Rodgers’s wants to replace Suarez at Anfield and is thought to be mulling over a £16 million bid for the 28-year-old.
It’s doubtful that Schalke would be willing to sell the the former Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan striker after he netted 48 goals last season although uncertainty over his contract has given the Reds hope of pulling off a deal.
It was reported in the Mirror on Tuesday that Rodgers has spent his first month at the helm identifying potential transfer targets with Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson set to sign whilst Fulham attacker Clint Dempsey is still on his radar.
“I know what we’ve got, more or less, in the squad, but I also know there are a couple of signings that could really improve what we do,” explained Rodgers.
“I think there are a few players who can come in and improve the group straight away. I know the types of player I need to bring here to make us function well and that’s something myself, the club and the board will look at.
“Hopefully we can get one or two in, and that is something we will be working hard on over the course of the summer.”
