Fulham eyeing Aaron Ramsey as Murphy replacement

Fulham want Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey to fill the void left by Danny Murphy after he joined Blackburn Rovers on Monday the Daily Mail reports.

After losing Murphy, 35, to Rovers on a free transfer Cottagers boss Martin Jol is keen to find a swift replacement and has his eyes set on Wales captain Ramsey.

The 21-year-old is settled at the Emirates Stadium but could find first team football hard to come by next season as manager Arsene Wenger eyes up Renne midfielder Yann M’Vila as part of his summer recruitment plans and Jack Wilshere returns from injury.

Jol is hoping to lure Ramsey to Craven Cottage with a guaranteed place in his starting XI and clean slate after he was criticised by a section of the Gunners support for a number of below-par displays in the previous campaign.

Meanwhile Murphy spoke of his delight at moving to Ewood Park stating much maligned boss Steve Kean as one of the reasons why he decided to leave Fulham after five-years.

“I am absolutely delighted to be signing for Blackburn Rovers,” he said.

“When meeting Steve Kean I soon realised the passion, enthusiasm and ambition he has for the club and how much he wants the team to bounce straight back up to the Premier League.

“His desire to get me to the club was a huge factor in my decision to join. The owners were also very passionate about their desire to move Blackburn forward as a club and create a squad that is able to achieve promotion.

“I’m excited about my new challenge and can’t wait to get started. I have enjoyed a fantastic five years at Fulham and I’d like to thank the club and the fans for all their support.

“Now, my new challenge is to help Blackburn get promoted and repay the manager’s and the owners’ faith in me.”
