West Ham lining up stunning Berbatov swoop

Dimitar Berbatov could be saved from his Manchester United hell with newly promoted West Ham preparing an audacious loan bid the Mirror reports.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is desperate to add a proven Premier League striker to his ranks and has been linked with a move for Liverpool’s Andy Carroll after he was told he can leave Anfield this summer.

However the Reds value the England international at £20 million and former club Newcastle United looking certain to win the race for his signature the chances of him appearing to Upton Park are slim.

He will now move for Berbatov who has grown disillusioned with life at Old Trafford and Allardyce is now ready to offer him an escape route and return to London.

The 31-year-old Bulgarian forged a reputation as a cultured goalscorer during a two year spell with Tottenham Hotspur before moving to United in 2008 for £30 million but has struggled to replicate his best form.

He has made public his desperation to quit the Red Devil’s with a message on his Facebook page saying: “The truth is, I love this club, but I am not going to be useful to anyone if I am not playing. And I want to play, I want to help.

“But for unknown reasons it’s not going to happen, or my chances will be limited, so it’s better for everyone if we say goodbye.”

Allardyce is prepared to take him on a season long loan deal with the view to a permanent move in the future but Sir Alex Ferguson wants to remove him from the clubs hefty wage bill as he eyes more signings.

United are hoping to sell for around £5m and it’s thought they have taken out an option to extend his contract by another 12 months despite his desires to leave.
