Winning promotion from League One can be one of the most difficult tasks in English football. Therefore, winning the title is even tougher and something that takes a lot of effort to achieve.
Many a big club have been relegated to this league with the attitude that they will have far too much for those around them. It hasn’t proved the case though with the likes of Leeds United, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest having a prolonged stay in English football’s third tier.
Looking at the favourites for the 2012/2013 League One title, it is indeed Sheffield United that are the team to beat. Available at 11/2, Danny Wilson’s men will be hoping to take the league by storm as they bounce back from a play-off defeat last season.
William Hill will offer free bets worth £25/€25 to spend on outright betting or match betting market this weekend! They’ll also refund losing bets if any game finishes 0-0! Exclusive to SqueakyBumTime.com
They only just missed out on automatic promotion too – to local rivals Sheffield Wednesday no less – so there is a lot to put right over the next few months. They have boosted their squad and a positive start is the aim.
Second favourites for the title are MK Dons at 13/2. They know a thing or two about League One promotion races of course, but they have constantly missed out. In fact, three of the last four seasons have resulted in a play-off defeat.
They have stuck with their manager though and their general approach to the game. The hope in Milton Keynes is that this is rewarded with promotion.
Next in line as far as the title odds are concerned are Swindon Town. Only just promoted from League Two, Paulo Di Canio’s men are expected to be right in the mix at the top of League One.
Other teams in contention for an automatic promotion spot, and therefore the League One title, include recently relegated duo Coventry City and Doncaster Rovers. Both are available at around 12/1 and can definitely not be dismissed as far as a title race is concerned.
A host of other teams will look to be in and around the top teams, but with perhaps more hope of a play-off push than a shot at 1st position. This includes Preston North End, Bournemouth, Brentford and Notts County.
You even have Crawley Town at 20/1 and they can’t be 100% ruled out, so it should be a cracking League One campaign.
