Tottenham to rival Arsenal for M’Vila signature

Tottenham Hotspur will challenge North London rivals Arsenal for the signature of Rennes star Yann M’Vila according to the Metro.

Spurs are resigned to losing Luka Modric to Real Madrid this summer and manager Andre Villas-Boas is now searching for a midfielder to fill the void left by the Croatian.

Porto playmaker Joao Moutinho was Villas-Boas’ top target but is reluctant to meet his £20 million asking price and is now thought have focused his efforts on bringing M’Vila to White Hart Lane

Having received several glowing reports from his team of scouts over the past the Portguese tactician is now set to table an official £12million bid.

Rennes chairman Frederic de Saint-Serni seemingly signalled that talks have already begun talks with Spurs over a move for the France international saying: “He has a concrete offer from England.”

The bid comes in the wake of rumours that Arsene Wenger was preparing to renew his interest in the 22-year-old after apparently cooling his interest.

He has long been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and looked certain to join the Gunners after they agreed a fee only for  Wenger to pull the plug on the deal over concerns regarding the player’s off-field behaviour.

Despite the speculation over his future M’Vila has remained coy on his future intentions insisting that he will remain available to his current employers saying he would be prepared for another year.

“I am happy. I’m not complaining and I’m playing. As long as I’m at Rennes, I will be available to the manager,” he said.

“I’m not getting worked up over that [transfer speculation]. I could very well spend one more season [at Rennes].”

Spurs have also had a bid for goalkeeper Hugo Lloris rejected by Lyon and have also made an approach for Bologna forward Gaston Ramirez with Villas-Boas desperate for attacking reinforcements with only Jermaine Defoe and Harry Kane to pick from going into the new season.
