Liverpool Team News as Jose Enrique transfer in readiness for Sunderland

Liverpool complete Enrique signing.

Liverpool have completed the signing of Jose Enrique from Newcastle United as they continue to build a new-look squad ahead of the new season.

The full-back becomes Kenny Dalglish’s fifth summer signing and has cost the club a reported £6m.

Speaking about making the switch from Newcastle, Enrique said: “This is one of the happiest days of my life. I have come to one of the biggest clubs not just in England, but in the world.”

Enrique went on to praise Liverpool’s new signings, saying that the club is moving in the right direction and he cannot wait to be a major part of future success.

As for the new players arriving at Anfield this summer, Enrique follows the capture of Jordan Henderson from Sunderland, Charlie Adam from Blackpool, Stewart Downing from Aston Villa and Alexander Doni on a free transfer.

There is certainly a fresh look to Liverpool’s squad and a positive feeling around the club. Fans of the club – who saw Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez arrive in January – believe they can challenge for major honours this year and Enrique agrees.

He continued: “My ambition is win everything with Liverpool. This year we won’t play in the Champions League, so the most important thing is to try and win the league.”

Whether Liverpool can become a major force again is certainly an interesting topic. There are several teams pushing to be amongst the elite in England and they are one of them as part of Dalglish era.

They will hope to get off to a winning start against Sunderland this weekend. Victory in this one and they will be up and running in a campaign where much is expected of them.

Joining less than 24 hours ahead of the game, it remains uncertain as to how much Enrique will be involved this weekend, but it will certainly not be long before he pulls on the famous red jersey.
