The results have moved them into pole position in the league, two points ahead of Barcelona, into the next round of Europe’s premier competition and kept the possibility of a treble open with progress in the Copa del Rey.

Having banked the Super Cup earlier on in the campaign, Real look set to add another trophy to their ranks next week with the FIFA World Cup Championship up for grabs. Real will face either Cruz Azul or Western Sydney Wanderers in the semi-final on Tuesday, ahead of a potential showpiece appearance on December 20.

Before that however there is the small matter of making it 20 straight wins against managerless Almeria.

The club, 17th in the league, having picked up just two points in their last eight matches and parted company with former player and manager Francisco midweek.

Real will be minus three of their big names this weekend with Luka Modric, Sami Khedira and James Rodriguez all out.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Almeria, Ancelotti revealed that of the three, Khedira and Rodriquez were on course to play in the world club championship which begin next week.

“Modric’s recovery is going well and he will be back with the team in January,” he said.

“We hope that James will be training next Thursday and will be available for the final [should Real qualify].

“Khedira will travel to Morocco. He will certainly be available for the final.”
