Juventus began the competition with a loss to Everton, losing 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw before crashing 3-1 to Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane inspired LA Galaxy on Saturday night.

Inter has been even poorer conceding six goals and failing to find the net in their defeats to Chelsea (2-0) and Valencia (4-0).

Juventus coach Antonio “We need to show more hunger,” he told the club’s official website.

“(Gianluigi) Buffon made an important point saying he fears a possible indulgence after two consecutive championship successes and you just need to look at the goals we conceded (against Galaxy) to realise the danger is there.”

Juventus competitive season begins on the 18th of August when they play Coppa Italian winner Lazio in the Italian Super Cup final and Conte see’s the clash with an out of sorts Inter Milan as an ideal way to head into that game with a morale boosting win.

Inter Milan have looked off the pace in the opening two games of the tournament however despite their lacklustre performances new manager Walter Mazzari has refused to criticise him team, telling the club’s official website “You could see Valencia were much fresher,”

“And then you have to consider that they played their last match on July 27, while ours was three days ago.

“Right now I favour hard work and I’m looking ahead. A defeat was something we knew was always a possibility, but perhaps we could have kept the scoreline down a bit since you never like losing by that many goals.”

After the disappointment of finishing 9th last season Mazzari has been tasked with making Inter competitive again and the former Roma coach hopes the defeats to Chelsea and Valencia will motivate the players ahead of the clash with their Italian rivals.

“It’s something I’ve expected from my first day here, that Inter would become competitive again,” he continued.

“We need to try and give everything, playing in a convincing way. In terms of doing things automatically we’re improving. It’s certainly not easy for a new coach to start from scratch.”

Kick off in the Sun Life Stadium Miami is 6.30pm ETD time, 11.30 UK time.
