This season the Italian Cup runners-up have made a stunning start to the season and their midweek win over Sampdoria was their fifth in a row and they will be hopeful of making it 6 games on the trot against Sunday’s visitors, currently 16th in the table.

Despite topping the table and making their best ever start to a season, the club’s Sporting Director Walter Sabatini is playing down talk of a title challenge.

“The Scudetto is not something that we are competing for,” Sabatini said.

“We are playing well,” he added. “We want to do well and to make Roma fans happy”

Sabatini’s has seen his team score 12 goals and concede one and with veteran captain Francesco Totti set to start after his second half appearance midweek the club will be confident of stretching their run against a Bologna side that draw 3-3 with AC Milan on Wednesday.

Neighbours Lazio will be without Miroslav Klose for their trip to bottom side Sassuolo. The veteran German striker will be side-lined for two weeks after under-going surgery on a minor football injury.

Despite propping up the table, Sassuolo will head into the game in strong spirits after picking up their first point away to Napoli midweek but with 16 goals already conceded in just 5 games, Lazio will be confident especially after beating Catania 3-1 in their last outing.

Defending champions Juventus currently occupy fourth place and take in Torino in the first Turin derby of the new season.

The Bianconeri are also unbeaten and beat Chievo 2-1 in their last outing, thanks to an own goal from Alessandro Bernardini.

Juventus manager Antonio Conte is set to recall Arturo Vidal and strikers Mirko Vucinic and Carlos Tevez after they were benched at Chievo.

Torino have not enjoyed a derby win since 1995 but have made a solid start to the season winning two and drawing two of their opening 5 games and in Alessio Cerci they have one of the league’s in-form players.

The striker currently leads the Serie A goal scoring charts with five goals but has never scored in a derby game, something he hopes to rectify on Sunday.

“I have never scored in a derby, but I guess it must be a fantastic feeling,” Cerci said. “I hope to achieve this and contribute to my team winning on Sunday.

“We have not won the derby in a long time and my team-mates and I will try to produce a perfect performance.”

Atlanta will look to end a run of three successive defeats when they face Udinese at home while Catania will hope to pick up their first win of the season when they Chievo at the Stadio Angelo Massimino.

Second place Inter Milan have also made an impressive start to the season and came from behind to beat Fiorentina 2-1 in their most recent outing. They face a Cagliari side that has drawn 3 of their 5 games so far and currently sit comfortably in mid-table.

Newly promoted pair Verona and Livorno will look to continue their solid starts when they clash at Bentegodi stadium while on Monday night Fiorentina will aim to bounce back from their defeat to Inter when they face a resurgent Parma side fresh from their dramatic 4-3 win over Atlanta midweek, their first three points of the season.
