The Dutch star saw a run of four straight defeats ended with a battling 1-1 draw to Lazio last time out, a result the young manager described as a “positive step”.
“They showed that they are a compact group who want to go forward. They helped each other out throughout the game and it’s a shame we didn’t get all three points, but it was a balanced game.” Seedorf told Sky Sports Italia.
“We always try to give our best in terms of performance and style, but at this moment in time it is more important to be solid, effective and allow few scoring opportunities to our opponents. If we do that, then we can build game by game.
“I have tried to teach courage, bring back some joy to the players and give them belief, which is perhaps more invisible than tactical changes. It is a crisis when a coach is fired, so I had to get the group back on track and in that sense I am satisfied with how we have progressed.
“The players are working very hard in training to improve and emerge from this situation. Tonight the result was another positive step forward.”
Seedorf has a decision to make in goal with Christian Abbiati back after suspension and battling with Marco Amelia for the number one spot. Mario Balotelli could start after coming on as a sub against Lazio however young forward Stephan El Shaarawy (foot) remains out.
Fiorentina meanwhile bounced back from the disappointment of their Europa league exit at the hands of Juventus with a hard fought 1-0 win over Napoli, with Spanish winger Joaquin scoring the winner in the 87th minute.
The win moved Fiorentina to within 7 points of third place Napoli and kept alive their Champions league hopes.
The club will once again be without Giuseppe Rossi with Mario Gomez set to lead the line in his absence.
