Inter Milan launch bid to bring Southampton star Ramirez back to Italy

Gaston Ramirez could be set for a sensational return to Italy with reports suggesting that Inter Milan are keen on the Southampton star.

The Uruguayan International only joined the Saints last summer in a reported £12 million deal from Serie A side Bologna but after just one season in England is been linked with a summer departure from St Mary’s stadium.

The player’s agent Pablo Betancourt has suggested that Inter Milan are interested in signing the attacking midfielder.

Speaking to Ilsussidiario.net Betancourt encouraged Inter Milan to make a move although he warned the Italian side that they would have to spend big to land the

“I have not personally had any contact with Inter, but there could well have been discussions between the clubs,”

“Should it be possible? I’m convinced that everything can be done if there is the money to do it.

“For Ramirez the English side made a big sacrifice, so if Inter like him they will have to pay a big sum.

“Italy is in Ramirez’s heart, but I don’t like talking about things that are not concrete.

“Should there be an offer, then we will evaluate.”

Inter along with Liverpool were mooted as possible destinations for the 22 year old prior to his move to Southampton and Betancourt confirmed that the Italian side were keen on the player last summer adding “Inter looked for the player before he signed for Southampton, but the affair failed.”

Ramirez impressed in patches during his maiden season in the Premier League scoring 5 goals and providing 3 assists in 26 games and has also been linked with a move to La Liga side Atletico Madrid.

However Inter Milan are hoping that the players previous experience in Italy will tempt him to snub the offer from Atletico.

Southampton, who would loathe to lose the 20 times capped International, are hoping that they can keep hold of the star and will point to their moves in the transfer market as an indication of their ambitions for the new season.

The club have made impressive signings this summer with Lyon defender Dejan Lovren and Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama buying into manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plans while the enterprising south-coast side have been linked with Valencia star Ever Banega, Roma star Pablo Osvaldo and long term Tottenham target Leandro Damiao.
