Warning to all Southampton fans: look away now!
Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly set to be snubbed by all three of his main transfer targets this summer.
Victor Wanyama, Roma forward Pablo Osvaldo and Belgian international Radja Nainggolan all appear to prefer other moves to a St Marys one!
Celtic’s Wanyama is believed to prefer a move to a Champions League side after experiencing Europe’s finest club competition this year with the Scottish club.
The Kenyan defensive midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League ever since bursting onto the Celtic scene and a move to England would be the next logical step.
Whether Southampton are really the club that fits the bill is up for debate. The St Mary’s club aren’t short of midfielders and in particular the likes of Adam Lallana and Morgan Schneiderlin excelled last season along with so many others.
Serie A duo snub
Osvaldo has consistently fallen out with A.S Roma club officials and recently criticised the club’s coach via twitter.
The Argentine-born Italian international has been told he can leave the Stadio Olmpico this campaign, however isn’t keen on a move to the Premier League.
Osvaldo, previously been linked with a move to Fulham and Spurs, favours a move to La Liga where he spent a successful year with Espanyol.
As for Nainggolan he is another who doesn’t want to join the Premier League.
Nainggolan favours Inter who have already had a bid rejected turned down by Cagliari and going by his recent comments, Southampton is far from his favoured destination.
“My priority is looking for a brighter future for my career and Southampton is my last chance”
Last year the club signed Gaston Ramirez despite interest from Liverpool which at the time was quite a coup and any of these signatures would certainly be another one!
After a very good first season back in the top flight, Pochettino is looking for the Saints to kick on and all three players would certainly bolster their squad.
Last season Southampton had no problems scoring goals, however had problems keeping them out.
From the outside looking in signing defenders with real Premier League class should be Pochettino’s main targets.
There have been rumours of a loan move for Tottenham’s Steven Caulker, however it is unlikely Spurs will let him go. Caulker is certain to play more frequently this campaign following William Gallas’ release and his natural progression.
