Southampton v Sunderland Odds : Rickie Lambert to score as home win proving popular with punters

The latest Southampton v Sunderland odds as Rickie Lambert to score first or anytime during the match is proving popular with punters as Paulo Di Canio’s Black Cats visit St Marys.

Southampton will hope to make it two wins from two when they welcome new-look Sunderland to St Mary’s on Saturday, as the Saints can be backed at 8/11 to take all three points.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were indebted to the fine form of Rickie Lambert last weekend with the newly capped England striker continuing his good early season form with a last minute penalty to secure the three points against WBA.

The 31 year old, who scored the winner for England against Scotland on his debut, has enjoyed a fairy-tale couple of weeks with his goal-scoring feats on the field surpassed by the birth of his baby daughter off it.

The Saints striker could once again reap dividends for punters with Paddy Power offering 4/1 for Lambert to score the first goal of the game.

Lambert looks set to have a new strike partner with recent signing Pablo Osvaldo, signed this week from Roma, set to feature up front alongside the former Bristol Rovers man.

The Italian International is unlikely to start however however fellow new signings Victor Wanyama and Dejan Lovren should keep their places after strong debut’s last weekend.

Sunderland meanwhile will keep faith with a host of their new stars despite the 1-0 home loss to Fulham last weekend. That means that Jozy Altidore, lively on his debut, Emanuele Giaccherini and Cabral will all start as too will Kieran Westwood.

One man who won’t feature though is Phil Bardsley.

The defender was suspended this week by the club following apparent mockery of the defeat to Fulham. The former Sheffield United star, currently injured, appears to have played his last game for the club after incurring the wrath of boss Paulo Di Canio not once but twice in in recent months.

Back in May a picture appeared on twitter showing the 28 year old surrounded by £50 notes following a trip to a casino and once again the player has fallen foul of social media posting ‘Great opening day. Hahahhahahahahahhaha!!!’ to instragram after team-mate Scott Harrison had posted a picture of the tunnel area.

New signing Charis Mavrias is unlikely to feature. The 19 year old completed his move to Sunderland from Panathinaikos on Thursday in a reported £3 million deal while Wes Brown could return after overcoming a knee injury.

The action gets underway at St Marys at 15:00 GMT.
