After the season had shown such much promise to begin with, Chelsea look as though they could be in for a tough campaign.
There is a lot of bad vibes around Stamford Bridge at the moment, and that may show on the pitch.
Here are five reasons why it might not be getting better any time soon for the Blues.
#1 – Rafael Benitez
When you step out of the tunnel in your first game in charge of a new team, you do not expect to be on the end of a number of boos and ‘Rafa Out’ signs.
After the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo though, that is just what Rafael Benitez received and it is going to take something special for him to win the fans’ over.
Some special like the Champions League? Well we all know that can’t happen anymore. The Premier League? Ten points is a big head-start to give the Manchester clubs.
It is tough to see the Spaniard ever really having a good time of things with Chelsea.
#2 – Fernando Torres
Fernando Torres has been awful for the majority of his Chelsea career. He scored two goals against an extremely poor Nordsjaelland side, so now people are wondering whether that might spark him into life, along with Benitez being in charge.
If his time at Stamford Bridge is anything to go by though, it will not. The Spanish international is the main striker for the Blues right now and hasn’t put in enough good performances to help them in games where they have needed him recently.
Unless they go and spend big on a front-man in January, where will a big chunk of the goals come from?
#3 – Frank Lampard
He has been injured for a while now, but doubts over the England international’s future might not go down well with the Chelsea faithful.
Lampard is a legend at the club and he would surly love to play out his career for the West Londoners.
Also, let’s not forget he is still as good as, if not better than any of the current players in the middle of the park and his experience would help this struggling side out a great deal.
It might be a smart move from Roman Abramovich to give Lampard a new contract to get fans’ back on his side again.
#4 – New Boys
Oscar and Eden Hazard are fantastic players, no doubt about it. When everything is going well at the club, they are a joy to watch.
But, when the pressure is really on and things aren’t quite as perfect as they were back at the start of the season – can these players with no Premier League produce something special? Will they bust a gut to track their man?
They might do, but they have both gone off the boil since the wins dried up.
#5 – The demanding Christmas period
This is sure to be a defining moment in Chelsea’s season. December is a huge month for matches and if you can’t string a few wins together over the festive period – then you are really struggling.
It is a demanding few weeks and Benitez needs everyone at the top of their game.
Have the Blues got it in them to now go to tough places like Norwich City and Everton over Christmas and claim all three points?
We shall see.
