Cardiff target Spurs and QPR midfielders

Tom Huddlestone has emerged as a transfer target for ambitious Welsh side Cardiff.

The Premier League new boys have shown they are ready to mix in with the established order after twice breaking their transfer record this summer.

Danish striker Andreas Cornelius and Steven Caulker have already arrived in deals in excess of £8 million and the pair could now be joined by another multi-million pound signing with Bluebird’s boss Malkay Mackay keen on Huddlestone.

The talented midfielder is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane following the big money arrival of Brazilian star Paulinho and has been linked with a move to both Sunderland and Fulham since the opening of the transfer window but so far a move has failed to materialise.

Cardiff are now ready to enter the race for the England star after being frustrated in their attempts to land Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue. The 25 year old French International looked set for a move to Wales after the club had agreed a fee for his services with the Ligue 1 side and agreed personal terms with the player however the move has been delayed and now Cardiff are ready to switch their attentions elsewhere.

Mackay now wants to bring in 26 year old Huddlestone, who joined the club from Derby County in 2005, and is ready to meet the £5 million asking price set by Spurs. Mackay wants to pair the 4 times capped England International with QPR star Stephen Mbia in a new look midfield partnership.

Cameroon International Mbia is entering the final year of his contract at Loftus Road and is ready to move on have indicated that he is not willing to play in the Championship. The 27 year old, capped 41 times for his country made his name with Rennes before joining Marseille in 2009. He only moved to London last summer in a £5 million deal with Joey Barton moving in the opposite direction on loan.

A league winner with Marseille Mbia would be a versatile option for Mackay as he can also operate as a centre back.

Cardiff are ready to spend £4 million pounds to land Mbia who has previously interested Arsenal.

The midfielder angered QPR fans back in May when he tweeted Joey Barton asking him to swap clubs again so he could move back to the South Coast of France.
