Roma’s Ba move could pave way for Lamela to complete Spurs switch

Chelsea’s very public courtship of Wayne Rooney and Samuel Eto’o looks set to have knock-on effects for their squad with rumours rife that Demba Ba is set to leave the club.

The Senegal International has failed to replicate the form that saw Chelsea pay Newcastle United £7 million for his services last January and is being linked with a move to Serie A side Roma.

The Italian’s, who have already added former Arsenal striker Gervinho to their ranks, are willing to match the sum Chelsea paid for Ba in the winter transfer window and are believed to have already opened talks regarding the striker.

The prospect of Ba moving could trigger a series of moves across Europe with the Metro reporting that should Roma make their move than it will force Chelsea to up the ante in their bid for United star Rooney or revert to Plan B and C, namely Eto’o and Porto striker Jackson Martinez.

Likewise should Roma acquire the signature of Ba then it will pave the way for Argentine winger Erik Lamela to complete his move to Tottenham which in turn would see Gareth Bale finally complete his protracted move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

A deal for Bale, who reportedly failed to turn up for training today amid suggestions he is frustrated with the north Londoners delay in finalising a deal, hinges on whether or not Real can prove they have the resources to complete a world record deal, with Tottenham wanting the full amount paid over a short period.

Spurs are also looking for Fabio Coentrao to be included in the deal but to date have been unable to convince the Portuguese star that his future lies in the Premier League however with Vlad Chiriches reportedly on his way from Steau Bucharest Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas appears to have sufficient cover now in the backline.

After missing out a deal for Willian, who joined Chelsea on Sunday, Tottenham could use the final portion of the Bale money, if a move materialises, to complete a deal for Hulk.

The Zenith St Petersburg striker has struggled for form since moving to Russia and could be tempted by a move to London. Should Villas-Boas convince the former Porto man to join the White Hart Lane revolution he would form a mouth-watering partnership with summer signing Roberto Soldado.
