Incoming Manchester United manager is planning a move for Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric, as he has searches for a new playmaker.
Modric only joined Real Madrid last season and has four years left on his deal, but he has suffered an up and down season at the Bernabeu as is expected to relish the chance to join United.
However, Moyes is set to have a battle on his hands for the Croatian international as it is expected that if Mourinho joins Chelsea, he too will attempt to bring him back to the Premier League.
United attempted to bring Modric to Old Trafford last summer, but lost the battle to Madrid as they signed him for £33 million, but it is likely that Madrid will be prepared to listening to offers for around £30million.
Ironically, Modric scored the goal in the Champions League this season at Old Trafford that knocked United out of the competition.
It is no secret that the Red Devils are in the market for a new playmaker as they have also recently been linked with former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.
It has been rumoured that United will tempt Barcalona with a £25million bid for the Span international, however Arsenal are also interested in re-signing him as they have first option on the midfielder.
Similar to Modric, Fabregas has endured a rollercoaster ride since moving to La Liga and it is speculated that he would rather a move to Manchester United to face a new challenge and join former teammate Robin Van Persie.
Should bids for both Modric and Fabregas fail; we revealed yesterday that Marouane Fellaini is also on Moyes’ radar as he looks to raid his old club.
If Mourinho is to leave Real Madrid and they appoint current Paris Saint Germain manager Carlo Ancelotti, it is unknown whether he will be reluctant to let the Croat leave as he was a keen admirer of the player when he was the manager of Chelsea.
Manchester United feel that if they are going to really challenge for the Champions League once again, they will need to bring in a big name playmaker to replace Paul Scholes, as youngster Tom Cleverly’s progress has stalled.
England international Wayne Rooney is expected to leave the club, with Paris Saint Germain favourites to sign the 27-year-old as they are prepared to offer him mega wages. Meanwhile Arsenal are also seriously monitoring his situation at the club and are expected to make a move for him.
Moyes is eyeing up a re-shape of Manchester United after he let assistant manager Mike Phelan leave the club, whilst it is rumoured that he is set to let go a number of backroom staff.
Goalkeeper coach Eric Steele has also left the club, whilst current first-team coach Rene Meulensteen may keep his job but in a reduced role.
Ryan Giggs is expected to take up a coaching role whilst playing at the club, preparing him for a bigger role in the club when he eventually retires.
