Aguero move on the cards as Tevez deal falters

Manchester City are increasingly confident of bringing Sergio Aguero to Eastlands after sources close to the club said the two parties would sit down to discuss a deal in the coming days.

While wantaway striker Carlos Tevez’s move to Brazilian club Corinthians has faltered, any move for Aguero is not believed to be reliant upon his international team-mate securing a move away from Manchester and looks to be a real possibility after the Atletico striker declared his ambition to leave the Spanish side earlier this summer.

Real Madrid are also said to be keen on securing the services of the talented Argentinian, although whether he would be open to a switch to his current club’s fierce rivals remains to be seen.

The signature of Aguero could set Man City back around £38 million – a fee unlikely to put off the club’s wealthy owners, who remain confident of beating their rivals to the punch.

While the mood around Eastlands over Aguero remains positive, earlier on Thursday Tevez’s agent insisted that despite the move to Corinthians falling through, the former Man Utd forward was still keen to push through his departure from Man City.

However with few teams around the world unable to match both Tevez’s salary and the valuation placed on him by his club – the stumbling block for Corinthians who were unable to back up their £40 million offer with any guarantees they would be able to meet the payment schedule – City’s leading scorer last season is fast running out of options for next season.

Inter Milan looked set to make a move earlier this summer but baulked at the money involved, but while that move looked dead in the water, speculation has increased of late that a move could go ahead if Wesley Sneijder was involved in a player plus cash deal.

However those claims were refuted by the club today, with TalkSport quoting sources close to the club as revealing that boss Roberto Mancini has no interest in signing the Dutchman.
