Man Utd make triple swoop for Kagawa, Strootman and Baines

Manchester United are closing in on deals for Shinji Kagawa, Kevin Strootman and Leighton Baines in a stunning summer swoop according to a source close to SqueakyBumTime.

Sir Alex Ferguson has targeted the trio as he prepares to overhaul his squad and inject some fresh blood after losing their Premier League crown to rivals City.

The Red Devil’s boss is keen to wrestle the title back from their noisy neighbours and has identified the areas that he feels need improving during the close season.

His pursuit of Borussia Dortmund playmaker Kagawa has been well documented in the press with reports suggesting that the Japanese international agreed a deal to move to Old Trafford last month.

The 23-year-old confirmed that he would end his two-year spell with the Bundesliga champions and it now appears to be a matter of when not if he’ll sign for United.

It’s thought Ferguson sees him as a long-term replacement for Paul Scholes and wants to partner him with Holland central midfielder Strootman after he emerged as a surprise target.

He wants the 22-year-old, dubbed ‘the new Roy Keane’ to add some bite to the engine room and is ready to pay upwards of £15 million for the PSV Eindhoven captain after a series of glowing scout reports.

The 70-year-old will round off his summer splurge by cashing in on Everton’s financial woes with a bid for Baines who is wanted as a replacement for Patrice Evra.

An out-of-sorts campaign from the 31-year-old Frenchman has convinced Ferguson he requires a new left back and there was speculation that United chief executive David Gill had already opened negotiations with Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright.

The 27-year-old  is currently training with England ahead of Euro 2012 and is thought to be happy to stay at Goodison Park and see out the remaining three-years of his contract.
