Lewandowski still chased by English trio

Robert Lewandowski is still a transfer target for three English clubs.

Both Manchester clubs and Chelsea have not given up hope of signing the Polish international.

Although Borussia Dortmund have stated Lewandowski is going nowhere this summer, the club are desperate to avoid selling him to arch rivals Bayern Munich.  Having already lost Mario Gotze to Bayern, any potential buyers would be an improved on selling him to Munich.

Dortmund aren’t afraid to let Lewandowski’s contract run down, which only has a year left, however he favours a move to Bayern.

All three English clubs have been linked with other strikers, however after missing out on them have made Lewandowski their number one centre forward target.

Manchester United

The English Champions at one point were reportedly very close to completing a deal to sign Lewandowski, however that never materialised.

With the future of striker Wayne Rooney still no clear, David Moyes feels the club need to add another goalscorer to their ranks.

Manchester United have always felt the need to have four strikers at the club and should Rooney go then there would a space available to bring in another.

However given their forward line, United probably need Lewandowski the least out of the three sides interested.

Manchester City

After selling Carlos Tevez, Manuel Pellegrini is certainly a striker light going into the new season.

Having missed out on both Radamael Falcao and Edison Cavani, City have now gone to their third option of the summer in the form of Lewandowski.

City would have no problems paying the fee Dortmund are holding out for, however Pellegrini will probably field just the one striker and that looks certain to be Sergio Aguero.

Edin Dzeko has previously been linked to go to Dortmund as part of the deal, which City would certainly be willing to include in a deal.

With Jose Mourinho willing to sell both Fernando Torres and Demba Ba, there is a place in the starting XI for a striker.

Despite all their creative midfield talents, their lack of a world-class goalscorer over the past few seasons has hurt Chelsea and Mourinho wants to rectify that.

Chelsea are another who has missed out on Falcao, however they are still in the race to sign Cavani from Napoli.

Lewandowski would certainly cost less than Cavani and in a window where Chelsea are expected to spend big, they may have to take the cheaper option when it comes to signing their main forward this summer.
